Hardware

• One small ARM board as the always-on host
• A pair of mirrored disks for anything worth keeping
• A modest UPS sized for a graceful shutdown, not for staying online

Software

• A plain Linux base, updated on a schedule
• Snapshots to a second location, verified on a cron
• A dashboard I check once a week and otherwise ignore

The goal is a system that needs me a few minutes a month.
